7.9 – Thank you and goodbye

Congratulations – you have now reached the end of this course on ‘Understanding Continence Promotion: Effective Management of Bladder and Bowel Dysfunction in Adults’!

In this final module the focus has been on two topics:

 

• • Firstly, how to effectively contain leakage of urine and faeces. Thinking back to the Continence Paradigm, which we first presented in module 1, containment of incontinence enables a person to be socially continent. So, their incontinence is not being treated, but they are able to participate in society because their leakage is contained and therefore hidden from others, and their clothing is dry and odour-free.

• • Secondly, providing effective continence services. You have explored aspects of continence service provision, and considered your influence on the quality of service provision and the perception of continence services by policy-makers.

We will now say ‘goodbye’ from us all at the ACP

We hope that you have enjoyed the course and found it to be a useful and interesting learning experience.

We hope that you will use what you have learnt to inform and improve your continence promotion in practice so that people with bladder and bowel dysfunction will experience both understanding and effective management of their condition. We also hope that you can raise the profile of continence promotion among your colleagues and wider system partners to advocate for the importance of this fundamental area of care for patients and why it is everybody’s business
