4.17 – Neurological levels associated with bowel disorders

Damage to the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord) impacts on the function of the large bowel, the colon, and on the ability to maintain bowel continence.

Table 4.1 below illustrates the bowel dysfunctions associated with neurological diseases at different neurological lesion levels.
