In this first module you have been introduced to the idea of promoting continence and managing incontinence as separate activities based on contrasting principles of care.
You have been asked to consider your own attitudes towards people with bladder and bowel problems and think about how your attitudes might influence your expectations for your practice and what you expect to achieve with your patients.
The continence paradigm has been explored and how it allows you to identify the purpose of your continence care, with any particular patient which helps clarify how you will work with the person to meet their continence needs.
Your reflection
Reflect on whether your views about continence have changed over this first module.
What have you found to be good, useful or interesting this module?
What actions will you now take to learn more about these topics and take your new knowledge forward?
What questions, if any, have arisen for you?
Don’t forget to capture your thinking in your learning log or portfolio and to summarise in your notes what the different attitudes of fellow learners are.
